Taxi in the Czech Republic — Prices and Routes

A transfer booked in advance costs what you agreed, and you know it before you travel.

What a ride costs

Two different things are called a taxi here, and they are priced differently.

A metered taxi charges by distance and time: about 28–32 CZK a kilometre in the countryside, 40–50 CZK in town, plus a starting fare and waiting time. It is a reasonable option — you simply do not know the number until the end.

A booked transfer is quoted per car before you travel and does not change afterwards: not in traffic, not at night, not if your flight is late. The distance stops affecting the price, and so does the number of passengers, up to the size of the car.

For one traveller on a short hop, the meter usually wins. For a group, an early departure, a long distance or a border crossing, the fixed price wins comfortably.

How much is a taxi per kilometre in the Czech Republic?

About 28–32 CZK outside the cities and 40–50 CZK within them, plus a starting fare. A pre-booked transfer is quoted per journey instead, so the distance no longer matters to the price.

Is it safe to take a taxi from the street?

Licensed cars display a tariff table and a company name. The safer habit anywhere is to agree the price before you get in — which is what booking in advance does for you.
